Commemoration of Hindustan immigration to Surinam
Commemoration of the Hindu immigration in Suriname
Week number 73-26
Celebration of the fact that 100 years ago the first Hindus from India came to Surinam as contract labourers. A replica of the sailing ship Lalla Rookh, the first ship with which the Hindus arrived, is used to simulate the arrival. They ride in a parade through Paramaribo.
