This is the story of Paul Alla, the contributor's great-great-uncle. He was in almost the entire war and died just before the end of it. He is the brother of Marie Alla, the mother of the contributor's maternal grandfather. He is buried in the cemetery of Jumel, in the Somme (Ailly sur Noye). He was in the 142nd RI, 9th company, 16th corps.
