Franciscus Willem Dekkers, referred to as Willem, was born on May 28, 1874 in Mierlo, the Netherlands. He ended up in Belgium and practiced the profession of coachman. He retrained to become an 'automotive conductor', receiving a certificate to that effect on February 10, 1913.
