Harry Walter was already in the Territorial Army when war broke out, aged about 21. In 1914 he joined the Oxford&Bucks Light Infantry, in the machine gun platoon. Harry thought the world of the mule who carried the guns. He bragged about WWI. He was posted in Mesopotamia and then later Italy.
